The pandemic has been tough on every aspect of everyone across the planet, including the wine sector. With the Southern Hemisphere not getting as much of the punishment during February and April (beginning of the pandemic) vs.the Northern hemisphere with the lock downs, restrictions, labor shortages and overall infections at a higher level than earlier in the year.So where does that put the world in terms of wine productions? The answer is actually....not bad. The quantity of mhl (million hectoliters) is roughly on the same level of 2019 however both will end up significantly lower than the robust production of 2018.
Other challenges that have impacted the production are the fires in California that may actually result in a small dip in the production. Chile and Argentina faced challenging growth issues do to challenging climate issues while Australia pulled out of their long cycle of drought cycle allowing them to climb up to a record harvest in 2020. While we have had many global issues combined with the pandemic, the overall outlook for this year's production seems to be in line with 2019. |
